Scores of fans will gather at the Ferndale High School football field on June 8, not to cheer their beloved Eagles on to victory, but in hopes that a cow will defecate in a lucky place.

The run starts at Affirmations Community Center on May 11 at 10:30 A.M. and has a $25 registration fee, which includes a t shirt and backpack. The run is approximately 5 miles long and people can run or walk to the finish line.

The Ferndale Recreation Department would like to honor Mike Pozolo as the Volunteer Basketball Coach of the season. He has demonstrated great commitment, enthusiasm, and accomplishments towards our youth Little Eagles basketball program.

It was just on Feb. 15 that Joe Mahan was honored at a Ferndale basketball game with the dedication of a scoreboard in his honor. “Joe Mahan, Voice of the Eagles,” reads the board, honoring over 60 years of youth mentorship and support of local sports programs.

Agora Arts, the newest addition to Ferndale’s creative community, will open its doors April 8 with a range of aerial and music classes for students of all ages and experience levels.
The studio will feature classes in aerial silks, trapeze and lyra, as well as Kuratomi Shindo stretching, tae kwon do, yoga, hooping and private & ensemble music instruction

“A Ferndale High School student died on March 14 after collapsing at school following a training practice with the track team. Mario Campbell, age 16, was a junior.
‘Grief counselors were at the high school on Friday morning to support students and staff. The district’s counseling and social work staff were also asked to start their day at FHS.

Both of the School Districts that serve our community (Hazel Park and Ferndale) are closed on Feb. 27 due to snow.

Ferndale High School was packed as students, teachers, parents and supporters in the community for the annual All-City Extravaganza. This event showcased the talents of youth from all grades in the district. There was a district-wide choir, band and orchestra concert as well as multiple presentations and information booths.

“We continue to emphasize the importance of the hunter orange law, knowing your target and safe firearm handling, and how they all are key factors in having a safe season,” said DNR Law Enforcement Division Chief Gary Hagler. “We also continue to encourage mentors to work closely with youth hunters to teach them safe firearm handling skills. One incident this year involved a hunter under the age of 10.”

Some Ferndale residents own guns, and the Ferndale Police would prefer it if those guns were stored safely. That’s why they have partnered with Project Child Safe to provide free gun locks to residents who request them.
The locks have been provided to the department though Project Child Safe at no cost to the department, according to Sgt. Barron Brown. The program began several years ago, but the department has not given away very many, most likely because the public hasn’t been aware of it.
