Thursday, May 17 with the official launch of its first on-street bike parking rack. The rack, designed and created by sculptor Richard Gage, will transform space to park one car into parking for 14 two-wheeled vehicles. It will be the first of six on-street racks the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority plans to install throughout the district.

“Registration is $32 which partially goes back to Ferncare. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000. If each of us can raise at least $100 we should make our goal! I hope to have more registered runners this year so we can surpass our goal,” Music said.

Ferndale Pride is setting a jovial pace for Father’s Day weekend activities. Not only will there be Ferndale Pride Market Daze, the Annual Dyke March, a balloon launch (with biodegradable balloons) and a new Light the Night event, there will also be the messiest and perhaps the merriest event of all: The Rainbow Run.

The cost to for the 20-member team to go to State Finals is $5,000. They’re still short $3,000 so The Ferndale 115 News is among those helping to raise funds.

Observant Ferndale residents and visitors may have noticed the new street sign at Allen and W. Troy and wondered just how it got the name “Cupples Corner.” The white sign with blue lettering is affixed above the traditional green street signs that are standard throughout the city. Only in a few locations can the special white and blue ones be found.

Organizing has begun for this year’s Relay for Life. The annual 24-hour event has teams from all over Ferndale and beyond taking pledges and all night to remind people that cancer never sleeps.

On January 21, 2012, Ferndale had it’s first beautiful sunny day with snow on the ground this year. Neighbors came together at the hill at Martin Road Park for some good old fashioned sledding. Here are some pictures.

The Ferndale Area Chamber hosted it’s annual Bowling Night Out on Dec. 15, 2011 at Luxury Lanes in Ferndale. Dozens of local businesspeople gathered to share in the fun. The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce hosts many events and offers services to help small business owners and managers connect.

Attendees were ladies of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds and variation in experience. Each one left with more confidence and personalized suggestions for improving the way they move and share their bodies in the space that they are in.

The Annual Holiday Showplace is a large craft fair that takes place at the Kulick Community Center and benefits Ferndale Seniors. The event is never fails to attract an eclectic variety of artists and crafters, each of whom brings not only their products, but also their smiles and holiday cheer.

Over 60 senior citizens turned out for the October 12, 2011 Ferndale Seniors Candidate Meet and Greet, held at the Kulick Community Center (1201 Livernois). The candidates were given five minutes each to speak, and then got to answer questions and enjoy cake with some of Ferndale’s most long-standing residents.

Hilton will be blocked off, and from 10 am to 6 pm along Hilton Road between I-696 & Lewiston, there will be carnival games, face painting, hayrides, pony rides, a costume contest, trick-or-treating, concession sales, an arts & crafts fair, rock climbing wall and more
