The intersection of 9 and Hilton was closed for several hours on April 30 when an oversize load truck bottomed out and the cab became detached as it traveled South on Hilton. The truck had not made it far from it’s starting point at Universal Press and Machinery at 955 Hilton.

It totally was surreal and horrible. I was about to turn right on Woodward from Main and I saw the guy put down his bag and get on the side rail. He just climbed on it and jumped. I was in shock for a moment and then I called 911.

The officers discussed the matter with Stanfield and gave him the opportunity to return to the restaurant rather than pay the bill. As the officers stood next to Stanfield, he put the car in gear, turned into the traffic lane (causing the officers to move or be run over), yell an obscenity at them, and sped off. The Ferndale officer became suspicious and arrested LAWSON for not having a license on him. Further investigation showed that LAWSON is not nor ever was a police officer. When arrested LAWSON, the officer found a pair of handcuffs and hunting knife in the compartment on the side of the driver’s door.

When the officer began to walk up to the vehicle, Taylor sped off. He fled through residential streets, ran stop signs, and drove recklessly until driving down a dead end that ran into a hill alongside the railroad tracks (in front of 1111 E. 8 Mile). The officer pinned the suspect in and arrested him.

… a Ferndale officer observed a Honda run a stop sign at Saratoga / Woodward, then speed n.b. on Woodward. The officer stopped the car and spoke with the driver ( SIBA). The officer noticed that SIBA had the odor of intoxicants on his breath. When the officer asked if the person had contraband in the car, SIBA told him that he had a handgun in the glove box. The officer then recovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the glove box and several rounds of ammunition in the trunk….

On Feb. 9, 2013 at about 9:00 p.m. a 52 year old man was robbed in the parking lot of the Stop & Go located at 1365 E. 9 Mile Rd. in Ferndale.
The victim was approached by the robber (a 40 year old b/m, Detroit resident) who had a revolver and demanded money and a cell phone from the victim.

PETWAY has 5 prior similar convictions. He was stopped after running a red light on northbound Woodward at Marshall.
PETWAY’s license was suspended from prior OWI convictions and he has previously been convicted of Driving While License Suspended.

Officers recovered a .44 magnum semi-auto pistol believed to be the weapon Parker held when he confronted the victim. Officers also recovered a Remington Model 700 rifle from the hotel room.

Experts from Oakland County Homeland Security Division and the Sheriff’s Office will conduct five training sessions for school personnel on how to react in an active shooter situation in January and February.
“Dec. 14, 2012 is emblazoned on our memories forever,” Patterson said. “Many died in the Newtown, Conn. tragedy. But many others survived because teachers knew just what to do with a shooter in the building.”

At about 10:30 a.m. the victim was loading groceries into her vehicle when she was approached by a black male (approximately 30 years old, clean shaven and well dressed). The suspect came in a maroon colored mini-van (make or model unknown). He asked the lady for directions, went to his van, and retrieved a sign that said he had a gun. He then told the woman not to scream.

Catherine Kavanaugh of the Daily Tribune reported that a teacher at Webb Elementary School, which is on Woodward Heights in Ferndale located in the Hazel Park School District, was allegedly chest bumped and slapped in the face by an unruly Aunt who had come to the building on Jan. 15, 2013.
