When Michael Murray and his son Michael go to the Humane Society each week, the doggies who are up for adoption wag their tales in anticipation. The Murrays are volunteer dog-walkers, a job that helps out the adoption agency and is a lot of fun for the father-son team.

These days, even though O’Donnell recently celebrated his 80th birthday, he shows no signs of slowing down. For fun, he likes to garden and one of the things he likes most is being treasurer of the Boston Terrier Club of Detroit. “Musetta has already won her championship,” he chuckled. “She is a retired volunteer just like me.”

For 13-year-old Eva, the frolicking came to an abrupt end when the 40-pound terrier mix impaled herself on a sharp stick that happened to be jutting out of the ground.

Last summer’s chicken coop discussions are finally coming to a vote at Monday night’s City Council meeting. A proposed regulation change would allow residents to keep up to three chickens if they follow basic rules of care. Currently chickens are not expressly prohibited, but rules about the placement of coops mean that very few residents would qualify to build a coop on their property.

The Ignash Family is missing a striped Tabby named Kwyibo. The “inside” cat got out on Oct 16 and has not returned.

Camp Casey Fest is in full swing, but also in full wind. The day-long festival to raise money so that kids with cancer can enjoy time with horses is taking place until 11pm, with plenty of fun, shopping and music. Country music star Josh Gracin is headlining the event, and he is expected to take the stage at 8:30pm.

The City of Ferndale Planning Commission voted unanimously to send a recommendation to council. The recommendation includes a permitting process and several stipulations, like that structures must be made out of durable materials and that a homeowner must pass a site inspection before receiving a permit. Coops could only be in the backyard and they must have all feed in sealed containers to discourage rodents.

On the evening of May 10, 2011 a dog was found lingering in the yard of 506 W. Hazelhurst. The family living there has been sitting outside with the dog, hoping that the owner will come along.
