Those who want to walk in the parade as part of the foot float should meet at the corner of W. Maplehurst and Livernois on Monday, May 28 at 8:30am. They should wear red, white and/or blue clothing without political, commercial or religious slogans or statements.

When Michael Murray and his son Michael go to the Humane Society each week, the doggies who are up for adoption wag their tales in anticipation. The Murrays are volunteer dog-walkers, a job that helps out the adoption agency and is a lot of fun for the father-son team.

The speaker will be Deborah Olson, executive director of the Center for Community Based Enterprise in Detroit. She’ll be talking partly about the history of cooperatives, and partly about the nuts and bolts of setting up a cooperative and making it successful.

“Registration is $32 which partially goes back to Ferncare. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000. If each of us can raise at least $100 we should make our goal! I hope to have more registered runners this year so we can surpass our goal,” Music said.

These days, even though O’Donnell recently celebrated his 80th birthday, he shows no signs of slowing down. For fun, he likes to garden and one of the things he likes most is being treasurer of the Boston Terrier Club of Detroit. “Musetta has already won her championship,” he chuckled. “She is a retired volunteer just like me.”

It’s that time of year again! This Saturday, May 12th, Claddagh Chiropractic is having their third annual Spring Into Health Festival from 10am to 1pm. There will be many activities and fun for the whole family, including vendor tables and a silent auction. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society via Relay for Life.

The event brought together musicians, artists, booksellers, poets and other writers. Attendees each received a used book from the Library’s bookstore and a rose.

Now, many years later, Bach is the owner of Dino’s Lounge at 22740 Woodward. The “upscale but not uptight” restaurant/bar has been a Ferndale favorite since 2002, and Bach is well-known for his involvement in the community and for the events he takes part in.

Ferndale Pride is setting a jovial pace for Father’s Day weekend activities. Not only will there be Ferndale Pride Market Daze, the Annual Dyke March, a balloon launch (with biodegradable balloons) and a new Light the Night event, there will also be the messiest and perhaps the merriest event of all: The Rainbow Run.

Friends of the Ferndale Library and The Society of Sant Jordi invite the public to enjoy a full day of cultural festivities. Admission is $5 and includes a complimentary rose and used book from the Friends of Ferndale Library bookstore. Kids 12 and under are free. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Library for community programs.

Planning is still in the works, and new ideas are most welcome. Some of the choices so far include flower planting at Grant and Ferndale Middle School, grounds cleaning at Coolidge, trash pickup on 8 Mile, Hilton, Woodward and Livernois, and helping to clean up a County-owned vacant property.

The Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission and the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority are combining efforts with that of the local business community to host the 4th annual Ferndale Green Week. The week of events are an opportunity for residents to not only celebrate Earth Day 2012 but also get to know some local businesses that are doing their part to help celebrate the earth year-round.

Comedy at 261 9 Mile. “I think everybody should do improv. The principles it teaches work in other areas of life. The relationships you build with people on stage will be like none you will ever have again. It’s nice to just fully trust someone to have your back.”
