Time to Plan Prides

Pride planning is now under way around Southeastern Michigan as Hotter Than July and Ferndale Pride both held their first organizational meetings Feb. 23. Both groups had higher than expected turnout and anticipate growing the events this year. HTJ will hold its 17th annual event in Palmer Park beginning Tuesday, July 24 through Sunday, July 29. Ferndale Pride, now in its second year, will take place over Father’s Day weekend beginning Saturday, June 16 through Sunday, June 17.

Max Fisher shares stories of being AIDS activist’s son

Max Fischer is now all grown up, and running his own film company called Fish Soup Films. He came to Michigan last Wednesday as the keynote speaker for a luncheon at Michigan AIDS Coalition to help attract attention and funding to the cause. He shared news of a documentary that he has been working on for the past year, his way of carrying his mother’s work forward.

Heck’s red rose was back in the Detroit area on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 as part of Affirmations AIDS Memorial. Four 12 x 12 sections were on display in the community center in Downtown Ferndale, containing panels that originated in the Metro Detroit Area.

I have come to realize that I love my children so much that I would make an adoption plan for them if I felt it was best for them. That is how much I believe in adoption.

Now, maybe it is hard for me to imagine how bad my circumstances would have to get for me to be driven to such a decision. But, thinking about what those extreme circumstances might help me to understand a little bit better just what factors go into such a decision for the women and families who do make the decision.

Transgender Health Fair focuses on Treatment and Guidance

The second annual Transgender Health Fair educated attendees about hormones, safe sex, gender reconstruction surgeries, counseling, laser hair removal, prescription drug coverage and supportive organizations. Transgender Michigan hosted the event, filling Affirmations’ front gallery with rows of informational booths, seminars and forums. More than 100 attended.
