Thursday, May 17 with the official launch of its first on-street bike parking rack. The rack, designed and created by sculptor Richard Gage, will transform space to park one car into parking for 14 two-wheeled vehicles. It will be the first of six on-street racks the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority plans to install throughout the district.

Last week, Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt of Schmidt Law Services, PLLC, presented Straight Talk on Medical Marijuana Laws at the Ferndale Public Library. In that talk she discussed recent proposals by both legislators and the public to modify the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act and the effects these modifications may have on the ability of qualified patients to use the drug

“Registration is $32 which partially goes back to Ferncare. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000. If each of us can raise at least $100 we should make our goal! I hope to have more registered runners this year so we can surpass our goal,” Music said.

It’s that time of year again! This Saturday, May 12th, Claddagh Chiropractic is having their third annual Spring Into Health Festival from 10am to 1pm. The Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission and the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority are combining efforts with that of the local business community to host the 4th annual Ferndale Green Week. The week of events are an opportunity for residents to not only celebrate Earth Day 2012 but also get to know some local businesses that are doing their part to help celebrate the earth year-round.

While Cathy was at a follow-up doctor’s appointment, she noticed a Sharing & Caring brochure with information about a new support group. Despite her husband and children’s support, finding women to talk to who truly understand the diagnosis and treatment plan was proving to be difficult. Cathy decided to attend, hoping to meet others who may have comparable experiences.

On April 2, 2012, Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan (PPMSM) will open a new health center in Ferndale, Michigan. Located at 23338 Woodward, the new facility is Planned Parenthood’s first in Oakland County.

FernCare, the community-created free health clinic, has finalized it’s numbers for 2011, and the results show that people are benefiting from this massive grassroots project. They saw 226 patients, 94% of whom thought the clinic was helpful.
