One of the most spectacular things about this year’s DIFFA: Dining By Design Detroit, Sept. 26-28, is its location. This is the only time people will be able to party in the old Federal Reserve Building at 160 W. Fort St. before it becomes full time retail/business space.

The charges had been dismissed, but Oakland County Clerk Jessica Cooper appealed. The Court of Appeals issued their determination Sept. 10, reinstating charges and sending the case back to the Circuit Court level. Charges are related to possession and intent to distribute marijuana.

Councilperson Dan Martin was the lone voice on City Council advocating for the adoption of the citizen’s petition for an ordinance to decriminalize marijuana for people over the age of 21 possessing less than an ounce on private property. The matter came before council Monday after resident Andrew Cissell gathered enough petitions to have the ordinance considered.

The 9th Annual Green Cruise took place in Downtown Ferndale, with several bike rides, a green parade, and a slew of environmentally-friendly vendors and organizations lining E. 9 Mile Road. Bikes were a big part of the event, but so were other people-powered contraptions, such as skateboards and wheelchairs.

State Senator Vincent Gregory (D-Southfield) will be hosting a town hall meeting on the Affordable Care Act in partnership with the AARP. Most of the major provisions of the Affordable Care Act will go into effect in January 2014.
