Police Report: “Fake Cop” Arrested w/ Badge, Handcuffs & Knifethank_you_201303rs02_dharma

(Lt. William Wilson, Ferndale Police, Feb. 28, 2013)

On 02/27/13 at about 1220 p.m. a Ferndale police officer made a traffic stop on MAURICE LAWSON for speeding on 8 Mile near Livernois. When the officer approached the pick-up truck, he noticed the driver wore a badge around his neck. The badge was attached to a leather backing and chain like that used by plain clothes bubble_and_bark_ad_ferndale115officers. LAWSON tried to convince the officer that LAWSON was a police officer for Detroit Schools Public Safety. However, LAWSON had no identification on him.

The Ferndale officer became suspicious and arrested LAWSON for not having a license on him. Further investigation showed that LAWSON is not nor ever was a police officer. When arrested LAWSON, the officer found a pair of handcuffs and hunting knife in the compartment on the side of the driver’s door.

LAWSON was arraigned for

1.       Unlawful Possession of a Police Badge (93 day misdemeanor)

2.       Carrying Concealed Weapon (5 year felony)

He was arraigned by Magistrate Brennan who set bond at $5000 cash/surety

SUSPECT: Maurice Lateef LAWSON, b/m, 38  Southfield resident
