Susanne Hilberry Gallery’s Chris Hyndman Gallery Talk March 2
(press release, Feb. 12, 2013)
Susanne Hilberry Gallery (700 Livernois) is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Chris Hyndman with a reception for the artist Saturday 16 February from 6 to 8 pm. The artist will give a gallery talk Saturday 2 March at 2 pm.
Hyndman’s work investigates the possibilities of making a painting via inventive process and conceptual imagery.
In his most recent paintings, Hyndman overwhelms/oversaturates the weave of the canvas with a paint body that reconstitutes the woven grid as a more dynamic and complex matrix. Exploring the relationship between the painting’s materiality and its imagery, he merges plaid grids with digitally-born topologies of “fabric” to resurrect the buried weave in an enhanced and codified form.
Chris Hyndman (b. London, Ontario) received an MFA in Painting at Ohio University in 2001,
is an Associate Professor of Art at Eastern Michigan University and has a studio in Chicago. He will have a one person exhibition at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Humanities in 2014 and has been included in numerous group exhibitions including Painting Coast to Coast at Wayne State University in Detroit, Evermore: Pattern & Process at Epsten Gallery in Kansas City, Contemporary Istanbul 2007 (Istanbul, Turkey) and ArteSantander 2007 (ArteSantander, Spain).
