Rib Burn Off Sizzles with Success

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Ferndale 115 News, Feb. 15, 2012 ed)

The Fifth Annual Rib Burn Off was a sizzling success, serving a record-breaking 848 people over 1,500 lbs of ribs all in the name of charity!  The Rib Burn Off is part of the Ferndale Blues and Music Festival, which raises money for Michigan AIDS Coalition and Ferndale Youth Assistance.

Eight teams competed in the Burn Off, which gave prizes based on the Judge’s Choice, The People’s Choice, Team Spirit and Rookie of the Year.  Attendees paid $10 and were able to sample two bones from each team, and put a vote in for the one they liked best.

M-1 Studios and Blumz… by JRDesigns, Floral and Event Professionals got the People’s Choice Award for getting the most votes.  Serve Pro was the Overall Champ as selected by the Judges.  Brian and the gang from Sikes Masonry won the Team Spirit Award, and  The Hungry Dudes and Rogue Estates took Rookie of the Year.

Other Teams included Marty O’Neil’s State Farm Ferndale (2011 Champion, 2010 Peoples Choice, 2009 Team Spirit), Timberland Insurance (2011 Team Spirit), Pro Home Improvement Ferndale (1st Runner up) and The Grasshopper Underground (1st runner up for Rookie of the Year).

This year’s sponsors were Garden Fresh Salsa, Bud Light, Suburban GMC Buick Ferndale, The Schwartz Organization, Kaye Financial and Ferndale Film Festival.

Dino’s Lounge coordinates the Rib Burn Off each year.  Check out their website at www.dinoslounge.com.
