Car Loses Control and Hits Courthouse

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Ferndale 115 News, 10/06/2011)

At just before 8pm on Thursday, October 06, 2011 a man with a medical condition lost control of his vehicle, which hit the front of the 43rd District Courthouse at 305 E. 9 Mile.

Police on the scene asked that the man’s privacy be respected and that the health condition that prompted his accident not be revealed.  He and a relative were in the car, and neither were injured.  Police say that no tickets were issued.

The impact destroyed several of the large wooden beams that decorate the building’s perimeter. [Note: an earlier version of this story reported that a window had broke, but in the daylight it turned out to be just a ripple in weathering plastic that looked like a crack]. Within minutes the vehicle was towed away and the damaged beams torn down.  The area remains taped off until the damage can be better assessed by daylight.

Editors Note:  This story was modified from it’s original version to clarify the amount of damage caused.
