In its second year, Clean the Ferndale Up brought over 80 residents out to do various clean up projects around the city. Focusing mainly on parks and major streets, teams picked up trash, raked leaves, and put mulch around trees.

Seniors from the world History & Geography classes at University High School spent a gorgeous spring day exploring and “scavenger-hunting” artwork displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Now CFF is specifically seeking participation from those who did not have the opportunity to attend in 2012. The next event is on May 16, 2013 from 5:30 until 7:30 in the evening at the Kulick Center(registration and a light dinner begin at 5:00 p.m.).

The main event takes place June 8-9 2013, 10am-10am at Ferndale High School. Several teams walk through the day and night to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Cancer victims, survivors and caretakers are honored. Leading up to the big day are several small fundraisers.

When their set was over at the Ferndale Public Library, the Detroit Party Marching Band was far from finished with their Saturday night fun. So instead of packing up their instruments to head home, the eclectic group of musicians took their show on the road, playing along 9 Mile...
The Association is also involved with hosting the annual Memorial Day Parade. This year’s parade takes place on Monday, May 27 at 10am. Due to the West 9 Mile construction, the parade will go South down Woodward Avenue from Cambourne to W. 9 Mile, but will turn onto Allen and continue along W. Troy to the Memorial Mall.
Crystal A. Proxmire, Editor & Publisher of The Ferndale 115 News took home a third place award for Investigative Reporting for an Online News publication from the Detroit Society of Professional Journalists.
Members of the community were honored with an awards ceremony on May 1 recognizing them as Good Neighbors. The awards program is hosted by Citizens for Fair Ferndale, a group dedicated to promoting kindness, fairness and civility in the community.

Each school is awarded points based on the following criteria: percentage of school population involved in green activities, green issues addressed, the quality of the work, the impact activities have on a variety of groups (grade levels, staff, parents, community), and uniqueness.
The run starts at Affirmations Community Center on May 11 at 10:30 A.M. and has a $25 registration fee, which includes a t shirt and backpack. The run is approximately 5 miles long and people can run or walk to the finish line.
The intersection of 9 and Hilton was closed for several hours on April 30 when an oversize load truck bottomed out and the cab became detached as it traveled South on Hilton. The truck had not made it far from it's starting point at Universal Press and Machinery at 955 Hilton.

Family, friends and supporters of Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Leach gathered in Berkley on April 27 to honor his service by unveiling a memorial for him and a bench named for his son Jack. The memorials are at Berkley Legion at 2079 W. 12 Mile Road.
Women Walking Woodward for Peace is a walk from Detroit to Ferndale in honor of pacifism. Even organizers said “This is not an Anti-War march, we have signs and banners with a pro-peace message. Acoustic instruments are welcome.
The Ferndale Public Library has joined forces with Metro Times for this year’s revamped Metro Times Blowout. The library, which hosts a monthly rock concert series, will serve as one of ten Ferndale venues featuring music by local artists May 2-4. The Friends of the Ferndale Library will be selling beverages, including beer, as a fund-raiser for the library’s programs, materials and special events. Attendees will need to purchase wristbands in order to enter the library for the event.
The event takes place on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Affirmations Community Center in Ferndale. The Gender Identity Network Alliance (GINA) organizes the event. Various panel discussions, speakers, and a room full of tables with resources for transgender people, gender variant people, parents, doctors, teachers, activists, allies and people who simply want to learn more will be available. There will even be cupcakes from Cupcake Station and other food from Buffalo Wild Wings and Como's.
Four Ferndale students were among those who visited the County Complex on April 22 to learn about County Government through many activities including a demonstration from County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and words of advice from elected officials like Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. Youth in Government Day is a 33 year tradition.
